Checkout Consent Copy That Stays Ticked.

Dan, Co-Founder · 17 Jun 2026 · 2 min read

TL;DR: The marketing-consent line at checkout is a signup form nobody writes. Give people a reason to leave the box ticked.

From the audit vault: From an audit of an occasionwear retailer: default platform consent copy, no benefit stated, and a recommendation to rewrite it like the offer it is.

The forgotten form

Checkout consent quietly enrols more subscribers than most pop-ups, and almost every store leaves it saying something like “email me with news and offers”. Nobody wrote it, so nobody optimised it, and untick rates are higher than they need to be.

Write it like an offer

State what they get: early access, member pricing, a chance at a giveaway, restock alerts for the thing they just bought. One concrete benefit beats a generic promise of “news”. It is one line of copy with list-wide compounding returns.
