Welcome Flows

Gift Buyers Need Their Own Welcome.

TL;DR: Someone buying for themselves and someone buying for someone else respond to opposite messaging. Split the journey at the earliest signal.

From the audit vault: From audits of a craft-kit brand and an occasionwear retailer, plus our work with a large gifting brand: gift-led messaging has to be tuned away from the buyer’s own desires entirely.

Two different psychologies

The self-purchaser asks “is this right for me?”. The gift buyer asks “will this land well, arrive on time, and reflect well on me?”. Messaging built for the first, all desire and self-improvement, simply misses the second.

Split on the earliest signal

A signup question, a browsed gift guide, a clicked gifting ad: any of these can route the subscriber into a gifting branch. That branch talks occasion timing, wrapping, exchanges, reactions and reliability, and it sells harder in gifting seasons than any generic flow.

The recipient is a second customer

Every gift order contains a person experiencing the product with no relationship to your brand. Inserts and post-delivery mechanics that invite the recipient into the list turn one order into two potential customers.

Ship this

Gift buyers optimise for the recipient’s reaction, not their own desire.

Route on the earliest gifting signal into a dedicated branch.

Capture the recipient too; each gift order holds two customers.
